The historic Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica comprises a full city block on 4.4 landscaped acres at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Ocean Avenue. With its prominent location and unobstructed ocean views, the Miramar Hotel represents a once-in-a-lifetime redevelopment opportunity to create an unrivaled one-of-a kind, mixed-use luxury hotel and bluff-top destination. Honoring the historic roots of this famous hotel, built in 1920, the redevelopment plan will create a new centerpiece for Downtown Santa Monica. World-class architecture and landscape design is thoughtfully integrated with historic preservation and expanded community benefits to ensure that the new Miramar Santa Monica will continue its legacy as an iconic destination for all to enjoy. MSD Partners, L.P., purchased the Miramar Hotel through an affiliate in 2006 with an eye towards redeveloping the property. Recognizing the importance of the site and the complexity of the development process, MSD Partners engaged The Athens Group to guide the hotel’s redevelopment. The Miramar Santa Monica redevelopment plan honors and celebrates the history of the site by featuring the historic Moreton Bay Fig Tree (planted in 1879) as its centerpiece and the preservation and rehabilitation of the Landmark Palisades Building which dates back to 1924. The new plan incorporates elegant contemporary architecture and inviting landscape design with the highest standards of environmental sensitivity and sustainability. The new Miramar Santa Monica is a mixed-use hotel, retail, and residential project, that will provide the finest in new hotel rooms, expanded food and beverage facilities, first-class meeting space and spa facilities, enhanced pedestrian access and public amenities for the Santa Monica community.
