MSD Partners, L.P., purchased the Miramar Hotel through an affiliate in 2006 with an eye towards redeveloping the property. Recognizing the importance of the site and the complexity of the development process, MSD Partners engaged The Athens Group to guide the hotel’s redevelopment. The Miramar Santa Monica redevelopment plan honors and celebrates the history of the site by featuring the historic Moreton Bay Fig Tree (planted in 1879) as its centerpiece and the preservation and rehabilitation of the landmarked Palisades Building that dates back to 1924. The new plan incorporates elegant contemporary architecture and inviting landscape design with the highest standards of environmental sensitivity and sustainability. The Miramar Santa Monica is a mixed-use hotel, retail, and residential project, that will provide the finest in new hotel rooms, expanded food and beverage facilities, first-class meeting space and spa facilities, enhanced pedestrian access and public amenities for the Santa Monica community.
