Honoring the historic roots of this legendary bluff-top hotel, our redevelopment will revitalize a California icon.
The historic 302-room Miramar Hotel is located in Santa Monica, California, and sits atop the famed Santa Monica Bluffs along the Pacific Ocean. The hotel dates back to 1924 and comprises a full city block on 4.5 lushly landscaped acres at the prominent corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Ocean Avenue. With its unprecedented location and unobstructed ocean views, the Miramar Hotel represents a once-in-a-lifetime redevelopment opportunity to create an unrivaled one-of-a kind, mixed-use luxury hotel and oceanfront destination.
MSD Capital, L.P., the family office of Michael and Susan Dell, purchased the hotel through an affiliate in 2006 with an eye towards redeveloping the property. Recognizing the importance of the site and the complexity of the development process, MSD Capital engaged The Athens Group to lead the development project.
The Miramar redevelopment plan honors the history of the site by featuring the historic Moreton Bay Fig Tree (planted in 1889) as the centerpiece of the new plan along with the creation of substantial open space at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Ocean Avenue. The existing hotel buildings will be replaced by new structures and infrastructure other than the preservation and rehabilitation of the Palisades Wing that was constructed in 1924. The Miramar Hotel will remain a luxury hotel with new and larger guestrooms, expanded food and beverage facilities and first- class meeting and spa facilities. The upper floors of the new buildings will contain residences with magnificent ocean views and luxury amenities. The redeveloped Miramar Hotel is being designed and developed to create a world-class address in Santa Monica.
